Today, we sit down with Porsché to learn more about her success as an entrepreneur in the literary industry.
Q. Let’s start with your entrepreneurial journey. How did you get into book coaching, publishing, and marketing?
Porsché: Even as a child, I knew I wanted to be a business owner. I can remember forcing my siblings to play “business” and having my younger brother be my secretary. He’s probably gonna kill me for saying that! But as I got older, life took hold and I found myself needing to escape the grim reality of everyday life in an oppressive environment.
That’s how I fell in love with books. That love grew into an obsession. I began freelance editing through Upwork and eventually began investing in my education in independent publishing. Fast forward five years later and here I am living my dream as the owner and founder of a 6-figure publishing company.
Q. What distinguishes your approach to book coaching from others in the industry?
Porsché: Too many non-fiction book coaches simply help people tell their stories, but I recognize that that’s both selfish and doesn’t accomplish anything. The world’s most impactful books combine the author’s stories AND their wisdom. This is what allows readers to be truly transformed by what they read. That’s what I help high-performing executives do. I help them take their experiences and their expertise and put it into a book that will solve true problems for their readers.
Q. Could you elaborate on the process and the outcomes you’ve witnessed from this approach?
Porsché: Absolutely. It all starts with understanding that the goal of the book is to solve a problem the readers have. I work with CEOs to articulate that number one problem and map out the exact solution. We then turn that solution into an easy-to-follow and easy-to-read framework and depict it in the book.
Once that is clear, we uncover their most powerful stories that relate to the problem and use that to build out the structure of the book. With this approach, I’ve seen business owners scale their businesses to 6-figures, become professional speakers, and move beyond what they previously thought possible.
Q. How do you ensure that integrity is maintained throughout the book coaching and publishing process?
Porsché: Integrity is EVERYTHING to me. From the conversations between me and the author, communication with the team, and of course, the book’s text, all of it must be true, honest, and authentic. I tell my authors to understand that their book is a promise that they are delivering to their readers. So their job is to fulfill that promise and give the reader exactly what they’re looking for. In that way, everyone this book touches is completely enrolled in our integrity and can feel it.
Q. Can you provide an example of a particularly challenging project or client and how your expertise helped them overcome obstacles?
Porsché: Recently, I worked with a talented business owner named Tyler. Tyler was ambitious, driven, and excited to create an impact. He’d been successful in his business and wanted to write a book that showed others how he garnered his success. When I received the initial draft of his manuscript, I noticed how confused and discombobulated he must have been when writing it.
The point of the book was unclear. The strategies seemed scattered. Most unfortunately, his stories seemed random. He was missing a framework. If we could create a framework around how he became successful and used that framework as the structure of the book, the readers would have a clear understanding of what they should do and why.
That is what we did. We created a simple yet clever framework that he not only used in his book but also began to use in his coaching sessions and online courses. The feedback from readers was outstanding and Tyler was able to drive much more impact in both the book and his business.
Q. As a TEDx speaker, how does your experience in public speaking tie into your work as a book coach and entrepreneur?
Porsché: One thing I learned about public speaking is to resonate with your audience by speaking to them and not at them. Not only does this create an instant connection, but it allows you to feed off each other’s energy. I’m an insanely energetic person, so I’m often bringing excitement to my talks. The same thing happens when I’m coaching. I’m able to connect with my clients and resonate with them on all frequencies. Not only does this help them realize that I get them, but it creates a bond that lasts forever.
Q. Your book marketing services are crucial for authors’ success. What strategies do you employ to make your services effective?
Porsché: We really focus on driving impact through authenticity. By developing powerful personal brands, managing social media, leveraging email marketing, and collaborating with equally powerful individuals, our services allow authors to connect with their target audience and meet them where they’re at. We also offer our signature service of “Launch and Leverage,” a strategy we use to help authors launch their books through transformational events that sell books, build email lists, and acquire clients all at once.
Q. What advice would you give to aspiring authors who are just starting their journey and looking to work with a book coach like yourself?
Porsché: You don’t have to know everything about writing or publishing a book to get started. You don’t even have to know exactly what the book will be about. All you need to get started is a clear picture of what you want your book to do. When you have this in mind, you will be able to start piecing the book together and find the right person to help you do that.
Q. In your opinion, what role do books play in personal and societal transformation, and how does your work contribute to this larger purpose?
Porsché: I’ve found that every adult has at least one book that has changed the way they see themselves or the world around them. This is because we are always seeking ways to improve ourselves, our lives, and our current circumstances. History has proven that the written word has a magical way of helping us achieve that. I have made it my mission to continue to help incredible individuals create these types of highly impactful books that change the world by transforming one reader at a time.
