With advancing technology in healthcare, it is now seemingly possible to identify how patients experience and treat several diseases. Thanks to the digital era, neurological spine and back disorders are no longer such potential concerns. Doctors are now able to use modern technology, such as virtual reality and 3D printing, to assist patients in their recovery.

In the past, many patients had to be hospitalized for weeks for spinal procedures. This meant they had to take time off work and be away from their families. However, technology has completely changed that. With the world constantly progressing, advanced neurological spine treatments are becoming more available to those who suffer from excruciating symptoms of critical neurological conditions. Advanced Spine and Neurosurgical practitioners provide patients with the care they need to restore or maintain neurologic function, control pain, ensure spinal stability, and improve their health-related quality of life.

Born on November 8, 1979, Dr. Kamal R. Woods is a leader in the field of minimally invasive surgery and is respected by his peers for his knowledge and abilities. He is a board-certified neurosurgeon and minimally invasive spine surgeon.

A graduate of Loma Linda University School of Medicine, Dr. Woods pursued Neurosurgery training at Loma Linda and completed his residency. In addition, Dr. Woods completed his fellowship in Minimally Invasive and Complex Spine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Quite recently, he received his master’s degree in business administration from Johns Hopkins Carey School of Business in Baltimore, Maryland.

As of November 2016, Dr. Woods joined Kettering Health Network as the Medical Director of Neuroscience at — a network of 7 hospitals in the Greater Dayton-Cincinnati Area. He is a highly esteemed specialist in the oblique lateral interbody fusion (OLIF) procedure and is continually involved in an international research studies concerning OLIF surgery.

Dr. Woods has an impressive background, having served as the Director of the Spinal Center at Loma Linda University Medical Center. While working at Loma Linda Medical Center, he also trained residents. Over the years, Dr. Woods has received many awards and accolades throughout his career, most notably being recognized as one of “America’s Most Honored Professionals” in healthcare. He has also been voted among the “Top 10” Neurosurgeons in his region, which is a testament to the high level of care and commitment to excellence he provides to his patients.

One of the rarest cases that Dr. Woods took charge of was a patient with a severe neck deformity. The deformity forced the patient’s head to lean at such an angle that his ear touched his shoulder. It was first-of-its-kind surgery, and Dr. Woods conducted it with no snags at all.As a result, the surgery gained a lot of attention on the media and was covered by many publications.

Inducted into the Expert Distinguished Doctors Network, Dr. Woods is currently a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS), Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS), and North American Spine Society (NASS). He also owns a private neurosurgery practice in Dayton, Ohio, called Vertrae, Inc.
