Why is this subject important in the world?
Recent studies show that nearly 50 million Americans will soon find themselves in caregiving roles. This isn’t a fringe issue anymore — it’s fast becoming a central chapter in the American story. Families are being stretched emotionally, financially, and legally in ways they never imagined, often with very little preparation.
What is the pressing issue right now and how are you addressing it?
The biggest challenge today is a lack of awareness and preparation. Most people aren’t equipped for the complexities of estate management, legal systems, and family dynamics that caregiving often involves.
Through our lived experience — and the heartbreak that came with it — we show exactly what can go wrong when families don’t have the tough conversations early or align on how to care for loved ones. Our story is a raw and real wake-up call, and we’re now using it to help others avoid the same mistakes.
W.C. Young Biography
What is your background in this subject?
My background comes from lived experience, not textbooks. I’ve been in the trenches of intense elder care, balanced business goals with family responsibilities, and survived deep personal and legal trauma. Everything I share comes from real-life scars, not theory — and that’s what makes it resonate.
What is something that most people don’t know about you?
I dabble with the drums. Rhythm and music are a part of my story, though it’s not something most people associate with my journey. But it’s there — a beat in the background, even during the hardest moments.
What are your passions outside of your career?
I love coaching youth sports, cheering on my kids, and spending time outdoors with my wife and close friends. Whether it’s hiking, running, or just being in nature, those are the moments that recharge me.
Are there any social causes that you believe in and support?
Yes. I proudly support the Denver Children’s Foundation. I was active with the organization for 11 years, during which time we raised over $20 million to support at-risk youth in the Denver area. It’s work that continues to inspire me.
The Unlikely Felon
Tell me about your book
The Unlikely Felon is part memoir, part cautionary tale. Caregiving is often described as emotionally exhausting — but for my wife Kay and me, it turned into a life-altering storm.
On a freezing day in February 2011, a knock at the door wasn’t a delivery—it was the police. What followed was a spiral into legal chaos, emotional trauma, and the total collapse of my business, reputation, and peace of mind.
This isn’t just a memoir about elder care. It’s about love, loss, injustice, and resilience. It’s about being figuratively and literally imprisoned and then finding a way to build a new life from the ashes.
