When I quit my “day job” seven years ago to launch my DIY decorating and craft blog, I didn’t know that today I’d be standing here, the founder of two 7-figure businesses. What I did know is that I wanted a different life for myself and my family. I knew that I enjoyed making things beautiful on a budget (from flipping homes with my husband to decorating and diy’ing) and it was something I was actually really good at. But, not only was I good at it, I was passionate about it. Passion
I believe the biggest key to success is finding something you’re truly passionate about in life. Don’t chase the money, but chase the passion. If you are truly passionate about something, you will automatically thrive. When you are living your passion, you will be far less inclined to give up when the times get tough or the money isn’t there, because trust me, that will happen. You will love it enough to keep on keeping on.
Here are 3 Reasons Why Passion is so Important:
- Passion keeps you motivated. I see blogs fail constantly. The reason? They are hard. The internet is noisy, and it’s hard to breakthrough. Some people are prone to just give up when success does not come immediately. The difference in my blog is that I’m so passionate about what I’m doing, that I would do it for free. In fact, I actually was doing it for free for a few years when I first started. I had tiny wins here and there, and that was enough to keep me motivated.
If I was in this career for a quick buck, I would have quit a long time ago! There’s no way that I could have continued on a journey that I was not passionate about through those tough times.
- Passion makes you want to be better. If your business is successful, it can be easy to want to just put it on autopilot. When you are truly passionate about it, the wheels just never stop turning in your head. You are always actively seeking out information and ways to make things better so that you can continue to be a beacon in your industry.
On the flip side, if you’re just going through the motions in a career you don’t love just to receive a paycheck, you never feel an incentive to try to become more or do better. You are simply living for weekends and holidays.
- It keeps your life in balance. A truly happy life comes down to having a good balance between your work life and your personal life. Just like most people, I am not always good at having that balance, but I can truly say that when you are living your passion, you will wake up excited about each day! In fact, it won’t even feel like work. That, in and of itself, is a game-changer for your mental health.
When people find out what I do, a lot of them tell me about the blog they want to start. I get this all the time, and I don’t ever want to shoot anybody down. I truly believe that if they have that dream and desire, they can achieve it. But the one thing I will ask is this, “What are you passionate about? Do you love it?” Because THAT is the key to success.
