Good morning, my beautiful entrepreneurs Welcome to the mentors collective. This is where business owners and founders come to not only improve their skills in business,
but also improve their life. And on this episode, I’m going to be diving in to one of the fundamental principles of success. And this is going to come with being in that 1%. If you want to have a 1% business a 1% life, you want to have freedom, you need to master these skills that we’re going to talk about in this video. And this is something that I was super closed off to when I first got into business. And people started telling me that you need to practice I’m going to tell you in a second, because you’re going to probably roll your eyes but I beg you to stick with me through this entire episode. And if you even take one or two things from it, or you’re a little bit more motivated to get into this, I promise you the payoff and the dividends will be exponential from what you put into it. And that thing is personal development. And if you stay with me till the end of this episode, So I’m going to give you some cheat sheets on where to start and actually where to focus your time and personal development, stuff that I had to filter through a lot. So I’m going to be giving you the top five books to read the top five people to follow, that you’re actually going to get the most value from because it’s really easy to get caught up in all the hundreds of people that are teaching this stuff, these gurus who really haven’t done it on their own, and just talk a lot about mindset and development that don’t really give you any strategies, tactics or skills. So we’re gonna dive right into personal development, and why it’s so important for not only your business, but living a happier and freer life. Personal Development is really the fundamental key to not only motivation, but working and if you can master this stuff, you are going to wake up happier, more energized, you’re going to stop relying on Adderall and coffee to get you through the day. You’re going to wake up To do your work, and you’re going to be more creative, you’re going to take more risks, you’re going to be more confident so that you can actually approach those. Whether it be angel investors, because you’re seeking money or business partners that you want to work with.
If you have this increased confidence, this increased energy, this increased drive, that all comes from personal development that you can actually practice and build. It is going to pay off for you a million times over. So what the hell is personal development? Where do you study personal development to me and you can look,
look us up in the dictionary. But for me, personal development is the art of building my spirituality, my mindset, my courage, and all of the things that make me the best. And I do that through what I believe is what you consume, put out and that’s true for food, fitness, pretty much everything in life. So if you’re sitting around Watching crap TV, these dating shows the bachelor and listening to angry rap music in the car and in your headphones all day. That’s probably what’s gonna come out of you.
However, if you’re, if you want to watch TV and you want to watch a documentary, you want to watch men who built America, which really cool Amazon special, and you’re using that time to really consume valuable product, you’re probably going to spit out something valuable, something constructive. So my biggest piece of advice to you and starting your personal development journey, is start consuming good quality stuff, and that’s probably the easiest way to start. And the best way to do that reading is hard for a lot of people. I don’t like sitting down with a book I don’t have that patience.
I know most of my generation doesn’t and if you tell them to read, they will metaphorically spit in your face. So what I do my little hack is I download audiobooks and most of them are free. I actually and I’m Not sure if this is illegal, or I should even be saying it. If you go on YouTube and type in a lot of these audio books, I’m going to tell you, they’re all on YouTube. I have YouTube premium, I can stream right from there. And then I have another software called downy, where I can download all of my YouTube videos into mp3, and keep it on my phone for plane rides, and other long commutes. And I highly recommend that you do this, it’s a really good way to consume all this all this amazing information.
So what else goes into personal development. Some other keys that I’m going to stress to you is find a morning routine that works. Find a nighttime routine that works and learn how to kind of hack your body hack your brain. You have to keep your body fit and happy or your brain is not going to be fit and happy and you’re not going to execute at the level that you need to execute if you’re going to succeed and being that 1% so if you’re not already into personal fitness, or you hate the gym, or you love junk food and don’t know how to eat right, this needs to be a priority before Everything else, get your body right, get your mind right, and everything else will follow. I wake up every day at 6am I go running, and one of my secrets to waking up. I’m going to share a whole video on my morning routine. But this is this is part of it. I do wake up pumped. But I know I know myself. I know as soon as I wake up, I see my dog sprawled out next to me with his little paws in the air that I’m going to want to spend probably 2030 minutes in there just just cuddling with him and chilling in bed. So I leave one of these right next to my bed and as soon as I wake up, I pull this off, I take a sip of my pre workout, which is just a really simple combination of caffeine and a couple of amino acids. I take a sip that might be 20 milligrams of caffeine, and I’m up I’m ready to go throughout the day. I get my morning run in, do my push ups and sit ups out in the grass, my dog, and it’s just a beautiful way to start your day. And I highly recommend that you find something like that. I’ll walk you through my whole morning routine and a follow up video. But it’s all for of personal development. And on my run, I consume podcast has really great podcasts that I love by one of my friends called the mindset mentor. And really great guy, I highly recommend you check it out.
But anyways, personal development, what you consume, you put out, I’m gonna leave it there, you take care of your body, you take care of your mind, you find a routine that that really leaves you in a happy and gracious place throughout the day. And it’s going to make your work that much more fun, more enjoyable. It’s going to give you increased confidence, increase motivation. And just overall, if you want to be in the 1% do the thing that one percenters do. And if there’s anything that I’ve learned throughout my studies of other successful people and successful entrepreneurs, is they all practice some form of personal development. And if we look at our favorite ones, we can copy their routines and some of them will work for you. Some of them won’t. But I guarantee you’ll start seeing some of that success just by modeling those people who are successful. And you know where I learned In a book Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, I believe it was Stephen Covey. And this book is one of one of the top five that I recommend, I’m going to go through the other four soon. But the principle that I just discussed is, if you’re looking to increase the success in your life, find someone that’s successful and do what they’re doing. Makes sense, right? personal development is something that they all do, that they all practice every single day and is a fundamental key to their success. And not just success in business, but success in life and happiness. And I can’t overstate the importance of the ladder, which is not just success in business, but it’s the actual mindset, happiness, gratitude that you have every single day.
The rewards are much more than financial guys much more than financial. So with that being said, I hope I talk to you into at least giving this stuff a chance because it is hard, some of it is even corny. You’re gonna feel stupid doing it but at the same time Highly recommend you give it a shot and it will pay off maybe not right away. You might even, it’s hard to build habits guys building habits is hard It takes I think the average is three months before I have it actually sticks. So until that time, you have to force it and forcing it sucks forcing, it’s like eating something that you really don’t want to eat every single day. And try to trick your brain into making yourself do it. And I have little hacks that are that are gonna help you along the way with that. They might not be good hacks for you, but they’re good hacks for me and maybe they’ll work for you.
Alright, so starting from the top of the list of books to read all of these books, I’ve read myself, and I’m able to recommend them because they were recommended to me. These are the books that my mentors recommend that a lot of the top gurus in the world recommend. And I’m going to give you a little breakdown of each one and why I think it’s so good. So the first one is How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. This book is almost 100 years old and it is absolute gold. I’ve listened to this Book twice on audiobook. It’s it’s got a really good, easy to follow audio book. And even though it’s 100 years old, it’s the principles of interacting with people. It’s the principles of relationships in business and communication.
It’s stuff that I wish I would have known a couple of years ago, and wish I would have practiced. Because really, it’s the essentials of making people like you, and being a good boss being a good delegator. And it’s user stories to kind of reinforce the points that it makes. So it’s really fun and easy to read, or easy to listen to. If you’re like me, and highly recommend you pick this one up. I think this should be maybe your second or third book that you read out of this list if you haven’t already touched them. The next one that I’m going to talk about, if you haven’t read it, which you probably have, this is the most commonly read book by entrepreneurs. I think I’ve read it three times on audiobook it’s got a great free audio book again. And if you want I can put the links to the audio book in the show notes, but really just YouTube, these things And if you don’t have YouTube premium, that’s where I learned most of what I’ve learned about being an entrepreneur, I highly recommend you get it. Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki. This one is the entrepreneurs Bible, ultimate classic. It really dives into mindset, how to be in that 1% why you need to be an entrepreneur and the benefits of being an entrepreneur.
This book is the book that really got me in the right frame of mind to do this and to know that I need to do this. And really, how big of a loss it would be to not be an entrepreneur and to be in the 90 99% so really, Robert Kiyosaki Rich Dad, Poor Dad, and if you’re not sure, if you want to be an entrepreneur, you’re teetering the line. Start with this book. Regardless, start with this book. If you haven’t read it, super easy read, it’s not tactics. It’s not strategy. It’s mindset. And every entrepreneur needs to read every single one.
The next one, which is one of my personal favorites, packed full of strategy by one of the mentors that I suggest and praise more than any other business mentor is the four hour workweek by Tim Ferriss. This book is the absolute Bible of being an entrepreneurship lifestyle mindset, what you have to gain from actually starting your own business and scaling it so that you don’t have to actually be an employee of your own business. You don’t have to be a slave to your own business, how to start something that you can automate that’s gonna make you money, and the mindset that you should take if you want to find happiness, and starting that business and living the life and doing whatever it is you want to do.
Tim Ferriss is one of my idols in terms of lifestyle and happiness. This guy’s figured it out. He has businesses on autopilot, he spends his life doing exactly what it is he wants, he learns languages he travels, is an adventure. He’s a fitness guy. Also on my top list of five gurus to follow is Tim Ferriss. And please read this book four hour workweek. I also listen to this book on audiobook. It’s a great audio book, but a lot of the strategies because he includes a lot of cool links and stuff, go to his website, but translate weird on audiobook, but highly, highly recommend. I think I’ve listened to this book three or four times as well. I also live in New York City. So on the subway, when there’s no internet, this, this audio book saved my life. And if you also take the subway or you fly a lot, download these audio books and start consuming, start consuming guys take another hit of my juice.
All right, the next book that I highly recommend, and we’ve already kind of touched on it’s the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey, another very old book and a very bad audio book, at least the version that I got. So I actually had to pick this bad boy up and read it from paper. But again, it’s one of those timeless books like How to Win Friends and Influence People that will never Go back this guy and interviewed the most successful people in the world. Andrew Carnegie inspired this thing. And it takes lessons from the most successful people figures out what their consistent habits were between all of them, and then puts it in a frame of mind that you can understand that you can dissect and that you could, hopefully help to become a part of your own life. And he actually talks about how to build a habit, how to take something that you want to become part of you, and turn it from something you’re forcing yourself to eat every day to a habit that you can’t live without. So please read this book guys. This one, I would also put in my top three. The next one, which is a little obscure, but bear with me. And I’m not sure how you’re gonna feel reading it. But in terms of value, it’s one of the most valuable books that I’ve ever read. And the science behind it, the message behind it. It’s called thinking grow rich. by Napoleon Hill and you’ve probably heard of it because it’s a super famous book. But a lot of what’s taught in there is exactly like it says from the title but drawn out and really dissected, which is thinking Grow Rich, really. You are the product of your thoughts, yourself actually actualization the messages that you tell yourself, how you tell yourself those messages. And
I’ve made this a part of my daily routine. And I think it really works. This is essentially what you tell yourself, I’m going to be a millionaire. You write it down, you write down how you’re going to be a millionaire. Eventually, you’re going to start practicing what you what you tell yourself. And those things are just going to start happening around you, because these are the messages. This is the dialogue that is now in your head. Please read this book. I know it can be a little weird for some of you. It’s a little Voodoo UI, but it’s not it’s really it’s a visualization. It’s practices. The top entrepreneurs and gurus talk about every day. This is kind of the foundation of it. Another really old book another classic. To be honest, I haven’t read too much of the new stuff. I’m not a huge reader, but these are the five that I have read that I swear by. So please pick them all up.
Take a look again, one How to Win Friends and Influence People Dale Carnegie, to Rich Dad Poor Dad, Robert Kiyosaki, Three, Four Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss for Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey, and five thinking Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, all older books except the four hour workweek, and all super impactful. That would probably be enough for an episode but I’m going to go ahead and jump right into the five gurus that I recommend you follow because there are so many gurus self stated, self help and business experts that you can follow and try and get the right advice from. But one of the fundamental principles that I’ve learned from my gurus, the people that I respect is that Question the advice that you take from everybody including me, you shouldn’t take all the advice that you that you hear from me. But I hope that I package the right advice from the right people and present it to you in a manner that you can understand and dissect. So let’s get right into it.
The five people that I think that you should start following and consume all around you that’s consume their podcasts, consume their YouTube, consume their books, consume their Instagram content, unfollow all of the junk, Instagram, and the junk YouTube that you follow, and replace it with this and I promise you, it’s gonna make a difference in your life, and your mindset and your gratitude, and all of it. Alright, so starting from the top, this one you’ve all heard of Gary Vaynerchuk. This man is kind of the representation of not just a guru, but it’s actually doing it himself. And he’s teaching real tactics. He’s teaching real mindset. He teaches and he is he’s not just a dreamer. He’s practical, and that’s what I love about him. He makes it real for everyone. You’ve all heard of heard of him he’s super entertaining to watch. He gives you actual strategy on marketing. And actually want to add somebody to my list because I just recently came across Neil Patel from marketing. Love this guy. I don’t I don’t think he’s a self development guru. But you’re gonna need to learn marketing. And this is the guy that I think you should learn from Neil Patel, but Gary Vaynerchuk absolutely consume his content. He’s motivational, he’s inspirational. He’s going to give you tactics, and he’s entertaining. So add him to the top of your list.
Next one is Tony Robbins. This guy has been in the game for 20 years. He’s IDD as far as most people are concerned in the self development world. He is the original og self development gangster coach. Please add this guy to your list list to follow. I still consume a lot of his content. He’s just so powerful. Something about him. listening to him and watching him. He’s like he’s like a modern day. preacher. I I don’t know how else to describe it, consume him on YouTube, his podcast kind of sucks. But YouTube if you need to buy his classes, go to his conferences. I would love to go to them. He has books that are out. He talks about finance. He talks a lot about mindset, personal development. He’s got like 30 businesses, his net worth is in the multi billions. This this is other than Gary Vaynerchuk. Top your list. Next one I already told you that Tim Ferriss love this guy super entertaining to watch in terms of podcasts. This is the one I think you should listen to to listen to. His YouTube content is good. Read all of his books for our work before our party tools of Titans. Tim Ferriss is one of my all time favorite people in terms of people that I want to be like, because he has kind of figured out the recipe to starting a business that doesn’t make you a slave to it. And then going out and being what you want to be in life. And for me that’s not just an entrepreneur I would love to learn multiple languages, I would love to adventure and see the world and do all kinds of things. And he is the perfect prime example of somebody that I want to model by my archetype for that, that kind of lunch. So follow this guy. He’s He’s amazing.
Those are my top three mentors. However, there’s two channels that I think you should tune into. And those are Impact Theory. And Evan Carmichael on YouTube, Evan Carmichael is just commented on one of my posts on Instagram, really good guy, kind of a nerd, but I love him. He does inspirational populations from all kinds of people on YouTube. Just super fun to watch. Super fun to listen to really, upbringing really uplifts your spirit keeps you motivated, keep grinding until you know the next level helps you digest all of the best tips from all of the best mentors from all over the country and all over the world. So thank you for taking the time to do that. You have to have a team but you really are an inspiration and I love Washington content and Impact Theory. I forget who the host of it is, but he’s the guy who started quest nutrition. And he has one of the most successful podcasts he brings on entrepreneurs from all over the place, and he gives you tactics and his guests give you tactics and it’s a really cool channel to watch. And this guy’s just a really archetype for starting your own successful media outlet and creating the life that you want to create. So thank you for creating that channel. And these are two things that I consume frequently, I would say every single day, because whenever I’m on the move, and I need to fill my tie something is the two things that I consume.
