Here we sit down with Corey to learn a bit more about his journey as a business coach.

Q. What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?

Corey: A three-decade-long career overseeing someone else’s operation was no longer fulfilling.  I was motivated to break the golden handcuffs and then focus on earning the ultimate compensation: QTL = Quality Time Left.

Q. How did you get started?

Corey: I made my bones in the broadcast advertising industry, operating a national video/audio production company. My fingerprint was on over 100,000 unique projects as a broadcast production executive for some of the country’s most iconic brands, including Disney on Ice, The Howard Stern Show, Monster Jam, and The Philadelphia 76ers.

In 2018, I began to leverage that experience and my vast network to provide marketing and social media consulting services to entrepreneurs and small business owners.

By July of 2020, my consultancy had grown to the point of being able to walk away from the production company altogether.

Q. What was your biggest startup challenge? What steps did you take to overcome it? What did you learn?

Corey: When ramping up my consulting business, I had the safety net of the full-time gig at the production company. Recognizing that my safety net could also be my biggest obstacle if I became complacent.

I knew I wouldn’t reach my goal if I leaned on my safety net.  Instead, I worked as if I didn’t have one.  I treated it as if I had TWO full-time jobs, not a full-time job plus a side hustle.

I got up earlier. . .Did tons of network engagement and a couple of coaching calls before business hours. Did another call during my lunch break. More after 5 pm. Got knee-deep content creation on the weekends.

After 2 years of that grind, I could leave the production company and schedule my work around my life. It was no longer the other way around.

Q. What is the most memorable thing you’ve done since you started your business?

Corey: I think the most memorable thing I’ve done is earn over 100 memorable success stories from my clients, which are all published for the world to see on my website.

Q. What is one book you recommend, and why?

Corey: “Habits of a Champion” by Dana Cavalea gives you an easy-to-follow road map to understand how consistency over time yields results. (It helps that I know the author too.  Dana is the BEST!)

Q. What are your top 3 favorite online apps, tools, or resources, and what do you love about them?

Corey: My favorite online tool is LinkedIn.  It’s not even close!  I definitely drink the LinkedIn Kool-aid.  It’s like the Swiss Army Knife of social media platforms.

You can do so many things with it: Network growth, content marketing, customer relationship management, etc.  My consulting company was built on the back of it.

Q. In terms of legacy, what is the mark you’d like to leave on the world?

Corey: Three words: GO, GET IT!

Stop waiting for the perfect time because there will never be one.

If you want something, get off your ass and outwork everyone to achieve it.

Q. In one sentence, what’s the best advice you’d give to someone just starting out on their entrepreneurial journey?

Corey: Be CONSISTENT – I have been able to do many small, boring, and unsexy things very well, day after day, week after week, month after month, and year after year. This brick-by-brick discipline has allowed me to achieve the career success and lifestyle I currently enjoy.
