Here we sit down with Melissa, to know a bit more about her journey as a career coach.

Q. What inspired Melissa to become an entrepreneur?

Melissa: Entrepreneurship for me was never a planned or desired career path. What I always need value was flexibility and control. Prior to Career Coaching, I did freelance for media for photographers and models, I did their makeup, but never took that path for me as a career, but I adored the flexibility that it brought. I dove into HR after graduating because I always loved helping others and bringing in positive environments. So I went through HR/Recruiting in management but wasn’t fulfilled I randomly stumbled upon online and saw there were so many different businesses and consulting services and thought, well I hate that I can’t help employees and candidates the way I desired because it’s of course just not possible to give candidates feedback and started as a career coach. I brought those clients success and with each satisfied client, it drove me more and more so I because of a full-time business owner.

Q. How did Melissa get started?

Melissa: Stumbled upon the online world, didn’t know much about it but I got my own mentor, did a lot of research, and I continued to educate myself in my craft, joined associations that gave me a foundation. Starting anything isn’t easy, wanting to grow sometimes can be difficult, but with any career, confidence and determination is key.

Q. What was your biggest startup challenge? What steps did you take to overcome it? What did you learn?

Melissa: The biggest challenge was trying to find a balance, it’s completely new to me and a routine of working in corporate to now at home was a huge change, and I know many of us might face this because remote work is here and it’s hard to adjust. What helped me was creating a new routine, I would wake up a little earlier, journal has a calm breakfast walk my puppy with my hubby come home, and feel energized to start my day. A lot of the ease to overcome the change was creating schedules. Today, I use a planner and an online calendar to manage everything and create accountability for myself.

Q. What is the Most Memorable Thing did Melissa Done Since She Started your Business?

Melissa: The most memorable thing that I’ve done… honestly there are two things that stick to me. I had a client that desired to work at a Fortune 500 company- Google. They didn’t have a network established and a way to get there. We worked in a structured session(s) which went from clarity, understanding their values, their desires which position should be their target and fit to job marketing materials to interview and networking. Just 4 weeks after establishing this foundation they got hired. Such an exciting blessing.

The 2nd memorable thing I’ve done was create a stress management program for clients. In our career, we are all leaders doesn’t matter if you’re looking for associate work or the VP. We battle life and work can cause a roller coaster of emotions, and this program has been my very favorite thing, it brings me joy because the transformation involves taking away the anxiety, the sadness, the emotion, and bringing a way to manage and optimize your desires for results.

Q. What is one book you recommend, and why?

Melissa: The 7 habits of highly effective people, brings together a method to understand and tap into your leadership qualities in a mental and spiritual way. It breaks down 7 principles that if applied can completely increase your productivity and work performance.

Q. What are your top 3 favourite online apps, tools, or resources and what do you love about them?

Melissa: My top favorite tools/ resources are Grammarly, I love Grammarly because it’s my 2nd eye, it helps recognize things that maybe I can’t get reviewed. Plus work emails are so important and this is a great way to triple check yourself before you click send.

Tagcrowd.com: a vision board style site that can help you achieve repetitive keywords that you can scatter within your resume if it’s missing (plus it’s free!)

Google Calendar: Manage your time, schedule your tasks, create accountability so this way you stay on top of your work.

Q. In terms of legacy, what is the mark you’d like to leave on the world?

Melissa: The legacy and mark I would like to leave on this world is that your desires can appear and come true, when you understand your values and stay true to who you are the best things can happen.

Q. In one sentence, what’s the best advice you’d give to someone just starting out on their entrepreneurial journey?

Melissa: The best advice I’d give to anyone looking to start or grow within their careers is to be persistent and consistent, the success comes from not giving up. The success comes from doing all the things everyday and believing in yourself. With the action, you will begin to see results.
