Here we sit down with Phil, to know a bit more about his journey as an entrepreneur.

Q: Tell us a little more about your journey as an entrepreneur – how did you get started? What inspired you?

Phil: My journey of entrepreneurship started in 2020. Dealing with burnout from the corporate world, I did a deep dive into the world of digital entrepreneurship, trying to launch everything from a print-of-demand company to affiliate marketing. Nothing seemed to connect and take off like the success I was seeing in the YouTube videos I was watching.

That’s when I decided to go to the source and ask Entrepreneurs who were already successful. In the fall of 2020, I launched Invest In Yourself: The Digital Entrepreneur Podcast to learn from successful entrepreneurs.

In the spring of 2021, I signed my first client, Lloyd Ross, and have been able to generate a million plus dollars for his business, win an independent podcast award for best business/marketing podcast for 2022, and increase his followers by 7% every month for his podcast.

Then, with the help of my business partner Chris Cownden, we launched The Podcast Agency to help industry experts with podcasting.

Q: What entrepreneurial tricks have you discovered to keep you focused and productive in your day-to-day busy schedule?

Phil: Music playlists are my go-to. Without them, I would have a hard time focusing on the tasks I need to complete.

Having worked in a cubical for nearly two decades of my adult life, I needed to block out the office chatter. Now that I can work anywhere and anytime without music, I am easily distracted by everything around me.

Q: How do you stay organized with such a busy schedule? What are some time management strategies, SOPS (standard operating procedures), hires or hacks that have helped you dramatically in business

Phil: Automation is one of the strategies I use to keep my life organized. I host and produce four podcasts just for myself, and without automations for guest scheduling, show note creation, and simple promotional material, I would be bogged down with more work than one person can handle.

This lesson was one of the firsts I learned from interviewing other entrepreneurs: You need to work on your business and less in your business. So, with podcasting, I needed a way to take care of mundane tasks that kept me running in place without moving toward my goals.

Now that I have automation, I can focus on bringing clients into the agency and helping them with their podcasts.

Q: What is the most memorable thing you’ve done since you started your business?

Phil: Well, that’s a fascinating question, as I would first change all governments to a Socialist government with a capitalist marketplace.

The second thing I would change would be to focus on advancing green energy projects to help sustain our planet.

The final thing I would want to change is a global collaboration towards Space exploration.

Q: If you were to write a book about yourself, what would you name it?

Phil: Funny enough, I was asked this on a podcast when I first started my journey, and the title I came up with was “From Burn Out to Boss: the Phil Better Story”

Q: What motivates you?

Phil: The motivation that keeps me going is my goal of owning a small, self-sufficient farm where I can spend time with my family.

Q: What is one of the best or most worthwhile investments you’ve ever made

Phil: The investment into expanding my knowledge through books, podcasts, and interviewing entrepreneurs.

Q: What key activities would you recommend entrepreneurs to invest their time in?

Phil: Education. You need to keep learning about different aspects of your business and life.

Q: What is your ‘one-sentence’ piece of advice you’d like to give to someone who wants to become an entrepreneur, coach, or business owner?

Phil: Learn about the 80/20 principle, then apply the principle to your life to get the success you want out of life.
