Living Life with Imagination: How to Enrich Creative Thinking

Albert Einstein famously said, “I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand. Logic will get you from A to Z; imagination will get you everywhere.”

I am a children’s book author, and one of the things I love the most about writing children’s books is the absence of reality in the creative process. The art of active and creative imagination is essential to writing an interesting book, painting a picture, designing a couture garment, sculpturing a piece of marble, inventing a new recipe…. the list goes on and on. Highly successful people have mastered the art of tapping into their imagination and learning how to expand and develop it.

The most unique and fascinating trait in all of us is our ability to imagine, daydream, fantasize, and visualize our hopes or fears. Our mind is the most powerful tool available to us. There is no end to the magic the mind can create. Nothing was ever invented without imagination and creative thinking.

Writing a fictitious book, article, or blog gives us the opportunity to tap into the vast resources of our imagination and creativity. Anything goes – doorknobs can sing, animals can talk, and roller skates can fly. A writer is only limited by his/her imagination or lack thereof.  That’s the sheer beauty of the imagination.

If you lack the level of imagination you need or want, there are numerous ways you can get on a path to expanded and better creative thinking.

So, how do you accomplish this feat? You can start with the basics, one of which is daydreaming. Daydreaming is one of the most effective ways to enrich your imagination. Also, listening to your favorite music while daydreaming does wonder to stimulate the imagination. I have had brilliant ideas pop in my head while driving my car, listening to music, and daydreaming about a project I am working on. It’s a powerful combination for me. Engaging in an activity that is new and different also works on the imagination muscle. Surrounding yourself with interesting people who have dissimilar hobbies, and lifestyles challenge your creative thinking. Learning a new skill or taking a class opens the door to thinking outside the box. Allowing fresh, exciting ideas into your world energizes you and makes you a more interesting person. The gift you give yourself of enriched creative thinking touches every area of your life and goes beyond the pale.

It does not matter what your field of expertise is, or the objective you need to accomplish, approaching the challenge with creative thinking and imagination produces a much higher result or product. Our imagination can help us become more successful in everything we attempt.

We can all incorporate the magic of our imagination in our daily lives to make life more colorful and interesting.
