Here we sit down with Jason, to know a bit more about his journey as a business coach.

Q. What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?

Jason: Becoming an entrepreneur was not a conscious decision, but an acknowledgment that there was a problem in how my industry was being served, and a clear gap in the market that I was very well placed with positioning, credibility, and experience to fill.

Q. How did you get started?

Jason: It was on a 5-hour road trip to a relative’s wedding in 2016 where the concept of Broker Essentials was formed. I’m blessed to have married one of Australia’s leading Thought Leaders in communication, Anneli Blundell, so having a leading trainer, facilitator, and entrepreneur to workshop concepts, structure, and delivery with, meant this was never a matter of if, just when.

At the time of inception, I was the Managing Director of Australia’s largest independent brokerage, and building a business from the ground up, while running a large company was always an exciting challenge.

Broker Essentials was created to fill the gap of supporting the Australian Broking market with education, resources, and advice that works and not just slogans, gimmicks, or an Insta post to help them grow their businesses. I also wanted to fill the significant void of skills and experience in the industry that was needed to support the SMEs in the desire to sustainably build, grow and scale their businesses.

Q. What was your biggest startup challenge? What steps did you take to overcome it? What did you learn?

Jason: In starting Broker Essentials I was blessed with abundance from the outset. The biggest challenge that I faced was more around where to start and how to narrow my focus to achieve my goals. To overcome this I sought advice from those that had traveled this path and I followed a proven thought leadership model that worked!

Q. What is the Most Memorable Thing You’ve Done Since you Started your Business?

Jason: Although I’ve won a number of awards and I’m recognised as one of the leading business coaches in the Australian broking market, my most memorable achievement has been my ability to deliver thought leadership, content, and resources that my clients are able to utilise in their businesses that create sustainable and lasting change.

Q. What is one book you recommend, and why?

Jason: Atomic Habits by James Clear is a very relatable read that provides a proven framework to help you improve every day.

Q. What are your top 3 favourite online apps, tools, or resources and what do you love about them?

1) The Rule of 3 – A daily and the weekly announcement of my intentions and not negotiable action items for my business and my life!

2) Zoom and Ecamm live! Together they are my portal to the world and allow me to share my knowledge and experience with my tribe.

3) My 16-inch Mac Book Pro! It never leaves my side…

Q. In terms of legacy, what is the mark you’d like to leave on the world?

Jason: I want to make a significant contribution to the industry that I serve and help my clients lift the tide of performance, so we can ultimately support the end client and increase the level of financial fitness in Australia.

Q. In one sentence, what’s the best advice you’d give to someone just starting out on their entrepreneurial journey?

Jason: Do fewer things well!
