Exclusive Interview with Jonah Sanders

Q. For those who don’t know you may you give the readers a look as to who is Jonah Sanders?

A. To answer that simply…I’m a man whose learned from his mistakes. A simple human. Yes I’m an author, educator and whatever titled people want to give me but I’m simply a human being just like everyone else.

Q. So tell us about The Jonah Sanders Foundation and your program I Was You.

A. The Jonah Sanders Foundation is me. It embodies what I stand for. I’m a person who has seen the works and who doesn’t like everything that I’ve seen so my foundation helps educate people and to bridge a gap in our communities. I Was You is a project that I started in which I tell my life story from being in the system as a youth but also teaching ways to not go down the wrong route. I would technically be the new Scared Straight Program.

Q. Have you had success with your project?

A. We are just really starting but yes. I’ve presented project to a few thousand community groups and have received results with youth who have changed their thinking and go the right course.

Q. This question may be off but why do you believe people say you’re the Malcolm X of this generation?

A. Possibly because the history of incarceration and the enlightenment and reform down. Yet to be honest I’d rather not be compared to anyone. I love Malcolm but we all have to live and make our own history.
