Discover Lisa Coletta’s Trailblazing Approach to Governance with The Governance Collective

Lisa

Lisa Coletta, the Founder/Managing Director of The Governance Collective Pty Ltd, Australasia’s leading edge Corporate Governance organisation is a passionate corporate governance change leader who leads a collective of senior specialists that shape, drive, and implement ‘right-sized’ (no corporate bullsh*t) governance policy and related frameworks and processes holistically in businesses.

Corporate governance is critically important because it creates a system of rules and practices that determine how a company operates and how it aligns with the interests of all its stakeholders. Good corporate governance leads to ethical business practices, which leads to financial viability.

Having worked in both the private and public sectors with a career that spans well over two decades in governance at varying levels, Lisa has defined, rejuvenated, and co-created governance frameworks and processes enabling effective decision-making in organizations.

Today we sit down with Lisa to learn a bit more about her remarkable journey as an entrepreneur.

Q. Let’s start from the beginning. What inspired you to step into your entrepreneurship?

Lisa: For many years, working in large corporates I found that once I enhanced and realigned governance practices, I’d get really bored maintaining the environments I created and I realised that I was a builder and step-change leader. That’s when I realised that I was best suited to support a broad range of organisations to uplevel their governance environments and that’s when I made the leap to provide my services and move away from corporate ‘one employer’ employment.

I’ve also always known that my purpose was to share my knowledge, skills and experiences with others and I enjoy coaching, guiding and leading.

Q. What entrepreneurial tricks have you discovered to keep you focused and productive?

Lisa: Structuring and planning my time is crucial – providing me balance with delivering to clients and living the life I want to live.

Q. How do you stay organized with such a busy schedule?

Lisa: I colour-code my non-negotiables in my calendar, and prioritize self-care so that I’m not drinking from an empty cup.

Q. If you had a magic wand, what changes would you make?

Lisa: Wow – that would be awesome! Firstly, I’d remove any human suffering so that everyone is free. Secondly, I would enable everyone to naturally want everyone to win (i.e.: everyone would be win-win and there would be no win-lose in the world) and lastly, I would remove any doubt that great governance is valuable in businesses and it isn’t just ‘corporate bullshit.’

Q. If you were to write a book about yourself, what would you name it?

Lisa: I’ve just started writing a book and I named it “Enough of the Corporate Bullsh*t!”

Q. What motivates you?

Lisa: Helping and supporting others to achieve their goals and outcomes is my biggest motivation.

Q. What is one of the best or most worthwhile investments you’ve ever made?

Lisa: I would say that any investment I’ve made in improving myself has been the best and most worthwhile investment.

Q. What key activities would you recommend entrepreneurs invest their time in?

Lisa:  I recommend entrepreneurs invest in learning to structure their time religiously. They will need that skill!

Q. What is your ‘one-sentence’ piece of advice you’d like to give to someone who wants to become an entrepreneur, coach, or business owner?

Lisa: Recognize that there are things in and out of your control – and only focus on the things you can control and let go of the things you can’t.
