A One-on-one Conversation With Prabodha Lakshan: a Digital Media Manager in Sri Lanka

How would you describe yourself, your childhood, and your early motivation for your interest in the field you chose to build your career? – When it comes to my path to social media, I’ve always enjoyed dealing with computers and have done so since I was a child. What’s new in this world all the time? From the time I was a child till now, discovering new technology has fascinated me.

I got into social media because of one unique individual, Dilshan Abeygunawardana, a successful Sri Lankan entrepreneur. That hot coincidence is still fresh in my mind. Dilshan’s brother asked if anyone might help him with his Facebook group one day. So that day, I made a mistake and wrote a remark on the post. Brother Dilshan called me after a while and handed over the assignment, and we’ve worked on several different projects since then. Many people just know me as the administrator of Dilshan Aiya’s MyhubLK at the time.

What do you feel when you look back to the start of your career and to where you are today? – I’m very delighted I got to where I am now; when I was a youngster dreaming about the future, I never imagined I’d be able to get this far in such a short period of time.

What advice for you have to give to today’s youngsters? – Work hard, since you never know if everything you try will fail. However, never give up. Also, keep up with what’s going on in the world.

Success to you is? –  I’ve already had success as a Digital Media Manager for well-known artists and YouTubers in Sri Lanka and overseas. I run a music distribution company in collaboration with one of the world’s largest corporations. And I’ve already solved the social media problem for many people and also operate as a social media consultant.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years? – In the future, going the maximum distance I can will be difficult. In my personal life, I aim to reach the pinnacle without creating enmity or rivalry. I want to concentrate on becoming a strong and calm individual who is unaffected by the behavior of others. In addition, I want to improve my good qualities.

Your daily routine? – I’m usually the one who gets up in the morning and spends the majority of the day paying with a computer. Because of technology, they can change a lot in a short span of time, far more than I am aware of right now. As a result, I’m always striving to learn new things. That’s what I do for the majority of the day. The balance of my time is spent with my loved ones.

What has been the most exciting and most challenging part of your career to date? –  Working with artists has been a highlight of my professional life. And it’s a significant difficulty for me because I have less time to speak with them due to their hectic schedules. As a result, we must recognize and meet their demands in a short amount of time.

What is your most marked characteristic? – I can’t wait to accomplish something if I want to achieve it, no matter how many setbacks and challenges I face. That is a characteristic of mine that I notice frequently. 

Are you involved in charity work? – I contribute to charity programs. I do almost all of that anonymously.

What is your secret to keeping yourself relevant, informed and focused? – As is customary for me, I conduct some technological experiments. Simultaneously, issues occur. In times of need, turn to the Internet and knowledgeable friends for assistance. That isn’t the only secret I have.

What do you dislike the most? – It takes time to handle social media difficulties. However, some of my clients are eager to wait for that time and disturb me at all hours of the day and night. That is what upsets me the most.

Your favourite holiday destination? –  My ideal destination to spend my vacation will be somewhere with fewer people.

The most important characteristic that a leader should have? – A leader, in my perspective, is someone who governs and directs others toward a common purpose. As a result, I believe that a leader must be able to make rational decisions without becoming emotional while on this trip, and to face any situation with confidence.

Is there anything or an incident that you would want to change in your life thus far? – The next few days are going to be the busiest of my life. As a result, I’d like to reduce my workload and adjust my frantic lifestyle.

What’s the next on your bucket list? – I’m not one to make public comments about things on my bucket list. But I’d want to point out that I’ve already accomplished a lot on my bucket list. The bucket list is never-ending and is updated on a daily basis.. 😅

For what in your life do you feel most grateful? – Wherever I was rejected, or when I was mistaken, all of these areas opened up new doors for me.

Describe your day off? – I normally enjoy walking alone on the beach and being alone in a secluded place when I’m on holiday.

What is your motto? – If You risk nothing, If you get nothing.
